George Washington University is a private research university that was established in 1821. It is associated with NAICU, CUWMA, SURA, and ORAU. Earlier, the university was known as the Columbian University and in 1904, its name was changed to the current name, George Washington University. Also, the university is popularly known for organizing big events like Presidential debates, hosting World Bank meetings, and managing conference for International Monetary Fund's Annual Meetings.
The university comprises of three campuses, namely Mount Venom Campus, Foggy Bottom Campus, and the Virginia Science and Technology Campus. The accommodation facilities are available at the Mount Venom and Foggy Bottom campuses. There are three libraries that are located at the Virginia Science and Technology campus, including Gelman library, Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library, and the Virginia Science and Technology Library. The libraries contain thousands of books and novels. Foggy Bottom is the main campus and is spread across 43 acres of land. It includes residence halls along with all the required facilities. The university comprises of some of the notable research centers and institutes, namely the Centre for Advanced Study of Human Paleobiology, GW Cancer institute, Biostatistics Centre, Regulatory Studies Centre, Centre for Aging, and the Institute for MEMS & VLSI Technology. These centers & institutes help students gain practical knowledge in their respective areas of study. They are guided under experienced faculty members. Also, they are given opportunities for a site visit for exposure.
GW University has a list of notable alumni that includes William Barr (Present Attorney General of the United States), Shahid Abbasi (21st Prime Minister of Pakistan), Kun-Hee Lee (Chairman of Samsung), J. William Fulbright (Founder of Fulbright Program), and Julius Axelrod (Nobel Prize in Medicine).
