  • Applicant should have a bachelors degree in relevant subjects
  • Business Essentials courses: Essentials of Accounting, Essentials of Managerial Accounting, Microeconomics for Managers, Macroeconomics for Managers, Statistics for Decision Makers, Foundations of Finance.
  • The Business Essentials requirements must be completed prior to taking any core courses. Applicants with baccalaureate degrees in business or economics from AACSB-accredited schools (or equivalent schools, as determined by the Business Graduate Curriculum Committee) may meet this requirement by demonstrating a "B" or better in the required undergraduate business courses. 
  • In order for a course from an international institution or from a domestic non-AACSB-accredited institution to be considered for a waiver of a Business Essentials requirement without examination, the following conditions must be met: 
    • The student must be able to provide a course syllabus for at least two courses taken in the discipline.
    • The student must indicate the textbook used for the course and provide a table of contents, if possible. 
    • At least one course must have been completed at a more advanced level than the Business Essentials course being considered for a waiver.
    • All courses completed in the discipline must have been completed with a grade of "B" or better.
  • International students who graduate from a three-year degree program may not waive Business Essentials courses.

  • Work experience is recommended but not required.
  • Applicants may submit a request to waive the GMAT through their admissions counselor if they meet the following criteria:
    • M.S. in Finance applicants who have passed any level of the CFA exam
      OR
    • M.S. in Finance applicants who submit sufficient evidence they meet ALL of the following criteria:
      • A business degree from a regionally accredited institution with a GPA of 3.25 or better
      • Earned a grade of B or higher in relevant coursework deemed appropriate by the Sykes College of Business admissions committee.  These courses will depend on the program of interest.  No exceptions on the B or higher requirement.
  • ELP waiver
    • ELP requirement is ONLY waived for international students from the Commonwealth Caribbean, Bermuda, Canada, United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
Conditional Offer

A student with a record of previous graduate work that does not meet the UT criteria for good academic standing may be conditionally admitted to a UT graduate program. This student's cumulative GPA for all graduate work will be maintained, but a separate GPA for coursework in the new program will determine the student's academic standing going forth.
