University at Buffalo Admission Dates

International students can apply to University at Buffalo graduate and undergraduate courses in either one of the intakes. The Spring intake starts in early October and the Fall intake starts in early February. UB has "rolling admission" deadlines. This means that we accept applications and admit qualified students until all available seats are filled. Some degree programs fill their seats quickly. Scholarship consideration begins in January. Therefore, we recommend that you apply as early as you can in your last year of secondary school. Our recommended filing date is Feb. 1 for the Fall applicants and Oct. 1 for Spring; and earlier is better.

The University at Buffalo offers scholarships in varying amounts to qualified incoming international first-year students. Scholarship awards vary and are renewable with good academic standing. The Flagship scholarship may be combined with other UB scholarships. UB’s low tuition, affordable costs and scholarship opportunities make it a positive value for all students. Indian food in the campus is decent.

Tips: Choose your specialization based on your interests and if you are planning to do PhD or thesis, then know more about the professor, go through their website and probably drop a mail regarding your interest in their work. Try to connect with alumni or current students via LinkedIn who might help you in choosing courses and all.

University at Buffalo (UB) is officially called the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York (and this is sometimes shortened to SUNY Buffalo). UB is the premier flagship university center of the SUNY system. There is a second, different school with a similar name and is known by multiple names; SUNY Buffalo State, Buffalo State, Buff State, Buffalo State College, and SUNY College at Buffalo.

Q. Are residential halls on campus of University at Buffalo available for international students?

A. All students, including international students are offered the option to live on-campus at the University at Buffalo. However, on-campus housing is given on a first-come, first-served basis, therefore it is advisable to submit your housing application and deposit as soon as possible after the student has been admitted to the University at Buffalo. Living on campus gives the student convenient access to classes, and activities and makes connections with the UB community. A UB ID card is required to gain access to all residential halls. The University police department of UB is nationally accredited. And the university has its own fire safety system, UB alert emergency messaging and staff on duty 24/7.

A. The BS class of 2021 took up employment mostly based in New York or other cities. Around 50% of students took a job in Western New York, followed by 26% in downtown New York, 17% of students in other US cities and about 3% chose employment that took them overseas. Q. Is it mandatory to submit test scores for admission to UB?

A. Tests are optional and international students have the choice to include or not include test scores in their application review. The University at Buffalo support SUNY’s decision to temporarily suspend ACT and SAT requirements for admission through Spring 2023. Students can share their scores as part of their application if they choose by selecting this option on their application.

Q. What if the student does not meet the IELTS/TOEFL score for admission at University at Buffalo?

A. If you can not meet the minimum IELTS/TOEFL scores for admission requirements then you can join UB’s English Language Institute to improve your English. If you can take the TOEFL or IELTS again in the near future and present a new score card which meets the minimum admission requirement for the English language then your application file will be reconsidered. The university will review your application with a new scorecard and if it meets the minimum IELTS/TOEFL requirement then the university may offer you a new admission letter.

Q. What is the minimum English language score required for admission at the University of Buffalo?

A. The University of Buffalo offers all of its courses in English. Therefore, it becomes essential for international students whose native language is not English, to provide proof of proficiency in the English language. The minimum score required for TOEFL is 79 and for IELTS is 6.5. However, some applicants are not required to demonstrate English language proficiency with a standardized test. These are international students transferring from another US college to UB, who (a) completed a degree at that US college or were enrolled for at least two years at the prior institution, and (b) had a minimum 2.0 GPA at the prior institution, and (c) had no more than a three-year break between the time of graduation/attendance at the previous institution and new enrollment at the University of Buffalo.
