International students can apply to University at Buffalo graduate and undergraduate courses in either one of the intakes. The Spring intake starts in early October and the Fall intake starts in early February. UB has "rolling admission" deadlines. This means that we accept applications and admit qualified students until all available seats are filled. Some degree programs fill their seats quickly. Scholarship consideration begins in January. There is a second, different school with a similar name and is known by multiple names; SUNY Buffalo State, Buffalo State, Buff State, Buffalo State College, and SUNY College at Buffalo.
Q. Are residential halls on campus of University at Buffalo available for international students?
A. All students, including international students are offered the option to live on-campus at the University at Buffalo. However, on-campus housing is given on a first-come, first-served basis, therefore it is advisable to submit your housing application and deposit as soon as possible after the student has been admitted to the University at Buffalo. Living on campus gives the student convenient access to classes, and activities and makes connections with the UB community. A UB ID card is required to gain access to all residential halls. The University police department of UB is nationally accredited. And the university has its own fire safety system, UB alert emergency messaging and staff on duty 24/7.

Therefore, it becomes essential for international students whose native language is not English, to provide proof of proficiency in the English language. The minimum score required for TOEFL is 79 and for IELTS is 6.5. However, some applicants are not required to demonstrate English language proficiency with a standardized test. These are international students transferring from another US college to UB, who (a) completed a degree at that US college or were enrolled for at least two years at the prior institution, and (b) had a minimum 2.0 GPA at the prior institution, and (c) had no more than a three-year break between the time of graduation/attendance at the previous institution and new enrollment at the University of Buffalo.
