Established in 1954, the University of California Riverside is an open research university that is associated with the APLU. UC Riverside is a proud member of the prestigious University of California system, which 2019 marked its 150th anniversary. The classes began in 1954 along with 127 students and 65 faculty members. By 1958, the university witnessed a rise in enrolments as it grew to over 1,000 students. Moreover, the Medical School opened by the university in 2006 was the 1st medical school constructed in California. A local couple contributed huge funds to the university to help to build an organized medical school with experienced faculty and professionals. In addition, in 2012, the faculty members received a fund for research funding from organizations like the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Health.
