A public research institute - the University of Ilinois at Urbana Champaign makes a global mark with its graduates bagging good jobs after graduation. Some of them also continued their further studies or participated in volunteer courses at record rates. It also stated that 90% of students took part in experiential learning opportunities such as clinical courses, service learning, study abroad, research and others and out of these 35 per cent of experiences helped students obtain a full-time career opportunity.
By participating in experiential learning activities, students were able to discover career lines and interests, develop inter-disciplinary skills, polish their networking skills and enhance their portfolios for the future. Also, the annual salaries were reported to have either increased or remained the same.

Students who passed out and obtained a graduation degree and obtained a first destination include those who were working (including military service), continuing their education, or were participating as a volunteer.
The graphical representation pictured below shows that education department graduates were the most hired with 94% employability, followed by the media graduates at 70% and Gies Business Department at 68%. The second graphical representation shows the placement statistics on the basis of the major students opted for.
If we look at the employment stats according to the majors available, students with a degree in Agriculture & Consumer Economics were hired the most with 76%. Those holding a degree in Animal Sciences witnessed the least amount of hiring.

The university has an established career centre that organizes several events and programs for undergraduates, graduates and alumni for helping their career search sail smoothly and efficiently. The centre not only aids students in discovering and getting part-time employment at the part-time job fair but also helps them in building their medical school applications. Students at Career Centre get acquainted with numerous collaborative programs and services. Stress is given to students’ overall professional well-being, empowerment, and education for enabling them to become industry-ready. Few of the services provided for students’ ease are:
- Pre-health advising to alumni who hold an interest in health-related careers.
- 30-minute career coaching sessions for alumni who have graduated for more than 1 year.
- Access to Handshake
- 10-15 minutes review sessions, with no prior appointment.
- Interview drill with an in-person mock interview coach with on-the-spot feedback and suggestions to face real interviews. The interview may also be conducted online via Zoom, or through phone call when the fall and spring session is on.
It should be noted that those who are enrolled in online degree courses and those who attended but did not obtain a degree cannot avail the Career Centre Services. The university also holds many career fairs on campus throughout the year which all the enrolled students can attend. The same can be attended in-person or virtually through your PC, tablet, or cell phone.
