The University of Maryland is a well-known public research university situated in college Park, Maryland. It is the Flagship University of the University System of Maryland that was established in 1856. It is the largest university in the Washington Metropolitan Area. The university follows a semester-based academic calendar. It receives research funding from the Department of Homeland Security, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the National Institutes of Health. The university houses many departments such as the College of Arts and Humanities, College of Natural and Agricultural Resources, and the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences.

From the beginning of 2017-18, the application process of the university was based on the format used by the top 130 private and public universities as presented by The Coalition for Affordability, Success, and Access. The admission process has become more selective as the College Park has gained prestige and became the ninth among the most selective public universities in the US.

The Big Ten Conference includes the flagship public university in each of the 11 states from New Jersey to Nebraska. This membership also places the University of Maryland within the Committee of Institutional Cooperation, an academic group comprises of Big Ten universities and the University of Chicago, whose members generated more than $10 billion in research expenditure in the year 2012. The University faculty includes Noble prizewinners that are a clear indication of the quality of education offered to students.

Apart from this, the university has one of the largest communities of language scientists in North America that includes more than 200 faculty, graduate students, and researchers who together make the Maryland Language Science Center.

The university houses a family of over 377,000 alumni from various countries across the world. Some of the notable alumni are Co-founder of Google, Sergey Brin; Carl Bernstein, the journalist who covered the Watergate Scandal and won Pulitzer Prize for Public Service and Raymond Davis Jr., the Nobel Laureate.

A. The minimum GPA requirement is a 3.0 for admission to the University of Maryland.

Q. Does University of Maryland require GRE scores for assessing applications?

A. No, the University of Maryland does not require GRE scores for assessing applications. In case the applicant has already given the exam and wishes to share his scores he/she can.

Q. When are admission decisions made by the University of Maryland?

A. As per the concerned Department’s inputs, recommendations are made on a rolling basis from March through May for Fall admission and from October through December for Spring admission at the University of Maryland.

A. University of Maryland's Admission Office considers transcripts complete and reviewable, the following points must be adhered to for transcript or marksheets:
