Eligibility & Documents Required
What are the eligibility requirements?
International UG applicants need to apply with their Grade 12 scores. Minimum score or GPA requirements differ as per course/major. The university does not require students to submit SAT/ACT scores for most of its UG programs. For instance, while applying to the Forensic Science or dual-degree programs, aspirants must submit SAT/ACT scores.
Students who choose not to submit these test scores must submit a written statement. This document should describe why their test scores are not an accurate reflection of their academic ability. Additionally, UNP encourages such students to attend an admission interview, which can be scheduled on campus, regionally, or via phone.
Any one of these English proficiency tests are required:
Note: Score/GPA and English test requirements may differ as per course/major. Check the respective course page to know the exact requirements.
Know more about these exams:

Student Diversity & Preferred Profile
What are the chances to get into this university?
With an acceptance rate of over 80 percent, UNH is rather selective while accepting students. Each year, the student body grows in size as it accepts more students. In 2018-19, the University of New Haven awarded 1,227 undergraduate and 734 graduate degrees. Academic excellence and standardized scores are one way to get into this university. However, the UNH is now test-optional, and it looks at the holistic profile of an applicant. This includes essays, SOPs, LORs, written samples, and so on. Thus, just meeting the general admission criteria is not enough. For Fall 2019, the first-year students had an average GPA of 3.46, and an average SAT score of 1132 (Math and Verbal).
How many Indian/international students are studying at the university?
International students make up 10 percent of the UG population at UNH. In Fall 2019, the university enrolled over 4,500 undergraduate and more than 1,800 graduate students from all over the world. The student body consists of an almost equal number of males and females, with 27.4 percent of students identifying themselves as members of an underrepresented group.
Part Time Work While Studying
Can I work while studying here?
F-1 Visa students having an I-20, issued by the educational institution they will be attending, can undertake on-campus employment. Work hour restrictions include:
- Part-time: For up to 20 hours per week, while the university is in session
- Full-time: For up to 40 hours a week during official breaks and vacations
Students can contact the university’s Career Development Center (CDC) for job opportunities. For more information on this, check the university website.

As per the university, about 56 percent of undergraduate students live on campus or in university-sponsored housing in 13 different residence halls.
